Hey Guys. Thought I'd share some news with you. A couple of weeks ago now, I beleive it was the night of October 2nd, We had some things stolen out of a truck in our driveway. The truck was not locked and the total amount taken was probably less than $500 so we didn't even report it, but I thought that you all might want to know. Please remember to lock your vehicles and take items of value inside your house. As safe as I feel in our neighborhood, it can a false sense of security. Please don't let yourselves be a victim of these theives as well!!!
Thanks everybody!

Dear residents. I got some good information from the mayor of Indian Trail today. You may have heard of this. There are people going around different neighborhoods posing as door-to-door salespeople. They work in teams. They are actually casing different areas and occasionally, there is an increased level of break-ins and other property crime following the casing efforts.
Now, this is not to say that all salespeople are criminals. There are many legitimate ones out there working hard to make a living. Technically, they should have a permit from the town of Indian Trail to do so. Technically, there is no solicitation in Wincrest as well (the sign at the entrance states this). However, people do come in. If you do get some at your door, and for any reason you don’t feel things are right, do the following:
1. Get as much information yourself about them (description, what they said, others with them or out in the street, cars, etc. and write it down.)
2. Call 911 to report all of what you saw and heard.
The sheriff’s department will follow up. Keep talking to neighbors about anything you’ve witnessed. The more communication, the better. Also, write into the Wincrest Whistle here. The sheriff’s department will always be here in times of need, but that is after something has happened. If they have information from concerned citizens, they can do more patrols and have a better idea of what they are looking for. All of us here in Wincrest have information and we can continue to be proactive and possibly prevent these problems before they happen. The criminals work successfully together in teams where neighborhoods don’t work together. Wincrest is different. We have a great neighborhood because we talk to each other. Keep up the great work!

Easter Egg Hunt
Just a reminder that The Second Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Easter Sunday from 11:00-12:00 in the Coral Bell Common area for children age 12 and under. The event is sponsered by The Wincrest Whiste and will include coffee, juice and doughnuts. For additional information contact the Whistle or email Loraine2059@yahoo.com.
Party
The First Annual St. Patrick's Day Party was a huge success. Two banquet tables were filled with everything from the traditional New England Boiled Dinner to the green array of treats for the kids. Well over forty-five people attended including the Mayor and his wife, many donning green attire some from head to toe, others being Irish in spirit for the evening. It was nice to meet new neighbors and to see old friends and watch those "busta move" to DJ G-Flex. Thank you to all who made this such an enjoyable event!

The Night Before Christmas Reading at the Evans Home
WOW what a great time we all had!!! The smell of hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas music in the air was a perfect setting on this cold winter day. Some of the neighborhood children took turns reading the story, while others were playing "hide n' seek". More fun events are planned for the spring. Hope all can attend next time.

How Lucky We Are
After a recent conversation with local law enforcement, it was great to know that we in Wincrest are known as a great community in which to reside. Continuing to be aware of our surroundings and those in the subdivision is one of the biggest deterents of crime. This individual was stunned to learn our watch is no longer in effect officially. "Unofficially", united as one, continued involvement and participation by residents in watching out for friends and neighbors does make a difference. Engaging in the privately funded events, echoing a sense of "community" will continue to make this a sought after residence and a win win for us all.
Event for Whistle Kids
All of the Wincrest Whistle Kids are invited to a reading of "The Night Before Christmas", December 13 at 12:00 noon on the Odessa Common Ground. Please bring chair or blanket. Holiday music, candy, cookies and other goodies will be provided to all children in attendance. If anyone is interested in caroling later the next week contact the Whistle email.

"Movie Under The Stars"
Despite the weather being a bit chilly and a lot of people were not in attendance the "Movie Under The Stars" was a huge success. Two movies were shown; Monsters vs Aliens and Monster House. Since the ground was still damp from the rain the movie was set up inside a homeowners garage. Blankets, jackets, popcorn and candy made for a nice cozy evening for everyone. There was even a local cat lounging around nearby. This movie idea really does bring the neighborhood together and the children always have a good time. Halloween is really going to be fun this year; I can't wait to see all the adorable costumes. I can't thank the Whistle enough for hosting these events and I look forward to what will be in the next newsletter. GO WINCREST WHISTLE!!!!!!

Community Spirit
I just want to thank all those involved with the new Wincrest Whistle Newsletter. I have visited the "official website" for Wincrest but it doesn't hold a candle to the Whistle and I look forward to reading the next copy. So far each issue that comes out I see more and more evidence of a community geared towards bringing the community together. What a wonderful place to raise a family in. I have concerns about why the official website hasn't done anything to promote our neighborhood? No need to answer that but just know that your newsletter and website are a welcome edition to the neighborhood.

Movie Night
Thank you to everyone involved in this blog and for taking the time to put forth all of this effort and time. We all have busy lives some more than others, but not many that would take the time to take an interest and have community events like those I have recently seen. This is so positive as I have seen nothing done prior to your Whistle being established. I hope to be at your next movie I have seen advertised. May God Bless you all. PS excellent idea with the newsletter, looking forward to what's in store next month.

Police Called for Gun Fire
Hello Everyone,
I just called the police at 2:15 p.m. today 8/28/09. Gun shots heard coming from the woods behind Coral Bell Court. These were not rapid fire, just single shots. According to 911 operator another call came into them about gun fire. Officer was dispatched. Thank you.

Movie Under the Stars!
That was a great movie! Coraline is an animated movie by director Tim Burton. It was a blast sitting in my lounge chair, having a drink, eating popcorn and watching a movie in the common area. Wow, who's idea was that? The weather was perfect too, with just a light breeze and distant late-summer heat lightning to the south. There were lots of kids on the blankets up front with the older folks sitting in the back.
I think I heard that next month's movie is going to be an 80's classic??? I guess we'll have to wait until the next newsletter comes out. :)
Thanks to all who put this together and I can't wait to do it again!

Nite Under The Stars
What a wonderful "opening night!". The first of hopefully many more events went off without any problems. There was a nice breeze and the skies were clear. Popcorn, candy, soda and great people were all there to watch Coraline. I can't wait until next months "Nite Under The Stars" presentation. I think those involved did a bangup job and I wish them continued success with this. Those who couldn't make it this past Saturday should keep their eyes open for Septembers issue of the newsletter for the date of the next movie night. Great job everyone!
